Luke Verniman was born in 1959 in Mortel, Belgium. He started designing comics as a child. Thus, it was clear that he had chosen an art form of free graphics at St. Lucas in Antwerp. He later pursued sculpture at the Antwerp Academy of Fine Arts. His work evolved from graphic black and white engravings to colorful oil paintings on canvas. His graphic works and oil paintings can be regularly admired in various exhibitions. He works as a freelance illustrator for various publishers and creates images for educational magazines and books for young people, but also creates logos, posters, banners and other print items. His other passion in the field of cartoons is among his oil paintings. Luke Verniman's humorous designs have won awards around the world for outstanding cartoon competitions: in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Portugal, Poland, Iran, and more around the world. Prize of the Satyrykon International Cartoon Competition in Legnica (Poland); 2003 - First prize at the Gol Agha International Cartoon Competition in Tehran (Iran); 2006 - Third Prize at the Zagreb International Cartoon Competition (Croatia); 2007 - Second Prize (EuroKartoenale Kruishium) 2008 - Second Prize in Lubbener Grafikatur (Germany); 2009 - First prize at the Fruit Cartoonale Sint-Truiden (Belgium); 2013 - Honorary Award at the 2013 PortoCartoon Wold Festival (Portugal); 2014 in "TheBer - Prize" for the International Cartoon Competition Berlin (Germany) and many more). Luke Verniman lives and works in Antwerp, Belgium.
