Canadian artist Lisa Milroy is known for her still life paintings of ordinary objects, often arranged in regular grids. More than formal studies of personal possessions, her work conveys a romantic obsession with one's remains and a desire to dissect the emotional essence of beautiful things. In her paintings, Milroy is fascinated by the relationship between stillness and movement and the nature of making and looking at a painting. In 1989, she received the John Moores Painting Award of the National Museum of Liverpool and was recognized. This artist became a member of the Royal Academy of Arts in 2005.
