He was born in Pinar del Rio, Cuba August 15, 1985. He attended the school of art (Instructores de Arte) for four years, and at 19, he completed his studies in 2004. Llanes was named one of the "New Superstars of Southern Art" - OXFORD AMERICA and recognized by the Mayor of Charleston with a "purchase award" for the art collection of the city of Charleston. In 2007, Llanes moved to the United States, where he lived in Charleston, SC, and was granted an artist residency at the Jonathan Green Studios. In 2015 he relocated to Miami, Florida, where he resides now. On October 2022, he had the opportunity to work with The Butler Institute of American Art – Youngstown, Ohio, with his solo exhibition: What is Essential is Invisible to the Eye.
