Nasser al-Din Shah, attributed to Master Mohammad Hassan Afshar, about 1850 Tersaei, watercolor, gouache and gold on paper, 60.96 by 40.64 cm, Los Angeles Museum of Art.
Unlike his predecessors, Naser al-Din Shah was not interested in the standard images of traditional Iranian court chronology, but in light portraits. This unusually large and memorable image of the young ruler, who ascended the throne in the sixteenth year, is one of the best similarities, including the photographs, which document his long reign and changing appearance.
